Love the show. 1st, a bit of criticism, Matt’s mike volume was MUCH lower than Toni’s. Just a technical issue. Content was great though. I remember a couple of years ago the Drake Relays held the High Jump downtown at the kick-off parade. They laid out track surface and held it on the street. It was really awesome! We need to do more of this.

agree on Eric, please turn up your mike.
Over in Europe there are some ‘market’ pole vault meets, which are pretty crowded. check out former WC Rens Blom website: pe http://www.rensblom.com/photo.php?id=166

Another great way I saw an elite meet get the public involved was at a meet hosted by Team USA Minnesota a few years ago. Before they started the meet they had what they called the “Meet of Miles”. You just gave then an entry time and they set up 8 or 10 heats of the mile before the meet started. It was really cool. Varied from people in their 70s to a few collegians going around 4:10. It was a great atmosphere, and then everyone stayed around to watch the elite runners try to hit US Championship standards. It was a great evening and only took about 3hrs.

Great podcast although I couldn’t follow everything (due to my limited English
Anyway, here in Germany you see also several attempts to promote some “niche” sports. For example ski cross country, due to its requirements for cold weather and snow it usually takes only place in the far south of Germany. But last year they brought it to Düsseldorf, a big city in the west near the Dutch border (see http://www.schnee-in-duesseldorf.de/index.php?id=35&L=1). It was pretty successful in terms of audience attraction and TV coverage (=sponsors!) although I’d assume that most of the audience hardly knew one international athlete by name. I feel that (at least here in Germany) Track&Field is not innovative at all. There are so many people running at local events and city marathons but you don’t get them excited for Track&Field or anything what sounds to be a bit more organized and competitive…
