Runnerville Weekly #15

A great show lined up today:

Toni Reavis jumps on the Andrew Wheating bandwagon, but not because of his great performances. Rather, Toni loves the fact that we stole him from the soccer pitch.

Robert Johnson is driving the Wheating bandwagon thanks to finishes like this one.

Jay Johnson browses usatf.org and wonders out loud why in the world there’s not one single video on the site. Great question.

Dan Lilot, watching the Doha meet from work, insists that it’s the best time ever to be a track nut. Sure there are problems, but we’ve never had it this good.

Jeremy Mosher takes Nate Jenkins one step further - Mosh wants eight Vin Lannana/Mary Wittenberg super spawn to run the sport.

Brett Larner sends an update on Mizuki Noguchi and Atsushi Sato, Japan’s top Olympic marathon hopefuls. Noguchi will try to defend her title in Beijing, while Sato will look to make a name for himself in the marathon.

Matt Taylor is rubbing mustard oil all over his skin. Why? To naturally produce his EPO levels. Just read this article. Scary, scary stuff.

Check out RunnersCookbook.com to support the Jenny Crain “Make It Happen” Fund and the Ryan Shay Memorial Fund. You’ll also get recipes from some of the best runners in the world. Great cause, great food.

Welcome, to Dan! As soon as I heard the bit about turning your avocation into vocation, I knew you’d be a great addition. Such a lexicon! And that comment speaks to feelings I’m sure many people in and around the sport have had to deal with.

Matt, sorry, I actually already own the http://www.mustardoil.com domain. I was young and confused, just out of college and needed the money. dont ask.

In reference to the usatf criticism, I wonder what kind of staff they have running that site, how many people, what their goal for the site is, etc. because not only does it lack the most basic “new media” things every professional web site should have, it also has very little and usually unupdated statistics and results on it as well. Its little more than a schedule of USATF championships and a place to buy “authentic” usatf gear. There are LITERALLY a dozen other sites that a track fan will go to before usatf.org to find out about USA TRACK AND FIELD!!!!, thAt definitely does not make sense.

Matt- While your at it, you better start taking massive doses of the herb Echinacea. It’s widely sold and touted as a way to prevent/relieve the common cold, but there’s been 2 studies within the past year that show that large doses increase natural EPO levels by about 50-70%. So with mustard seed and that, you should be ready to roll…

Hopefully we aren’t coming to the point in our sport that it becomes like bodybuilding where we all stand around after a set of quarter repeats and talk about the 20 different supplements we are taking.

Toni, you could be onto something. Alex Gits was a soccer player, I believe, through her junior year in high school. She won the Minnesota x-c title as a senior and is now starring at Stanford and representing the U.S. at World Cross. Also, Jeanne Hennessy played soccer in college before becoming a 2-time marathon trials qualifier.
